Health Hero App - Creating a platform for Trustworthy and Reliable Healthcare.

One of Nigeria’s biggest problems has always circled around Healthcare and this has been growing in the recent years. Now we are in the technology era, we have different innovations around Information Technology but still Nigeria battles with ways to make Healthcare and delivery of Medications fluent and reliable. We have been able to pick this as a problem to be tackled for the IFA Fellowship Hackathon and have come up with some ideas around how this problem can be reduced drastically.

First of all, I would like to break down what a Hackathon means. This is basically a process where by a specific problem is stated and individuals are expected to come up with the best solution that can tackle the problem and also produce an MVP(Minimum Viable Product) in which can be tested to achieve positive results. We were able to conduct a research on some cities in Nigeria and found out that most individuals found it hard to get access to hospitals so they resulted to self medication and some others didn’t like the way hospital environments were, ranging from time consumption, smell of the hospitals to delayed attention. This has built a problem which has led many people to ill mannered ways of treating their illnesses.

The key process we focused on to solve this problem was a technique called Design Thinking. It is a process whereby you get to understand a customer’s pain points in order to be able to create a solution for them. We were also engaged by many mentors from Harvard University and MIT who we pitched to and also helped us in aligning our facts and details of our solution right.

Moving to the interesting part which is the Product, we were able to make good use of technology to build a platform called the Health Hero App. On this platform, patients are able to get access to doctors, prescriptions and also an inventory of standard medications all from the comfort of their homes. We saw that many patients didn’t like going to hospitals and many didn’t have access to hospitals so why go out when you can access all the medical care you need from your home. Merging data gotten from the customers we interviewed with design thinking process and technology to build this platform made it possible for us to build a solution and we already had an MVP to be released to the market for feedback.

The image above is a sample of what the homepage of the Health Hero app looks like. Patients would create and account and have access to doctors and pharmacies and also be able to create a medical file to always have a seamless interaction from the platform.

The business model around this and how we intend to generate revenue is by leveraging interactions from the doctors, patients and drug purchase where by we put a commission/charge on every transaction made through the platform and also extra revenue from the download and usage of the platform/app by users.

With this solution, we have been able to eradicate long waits at hospitals, created easy access to medications, patients can easily book for consultations and all of this can be done from the comfort of their homes.
